When Motivation Moves On

What do you do when motivation moves on without you? When that excitement and endorphins rush of starting something new is gone? It’s February. Millions of people have hit the gym in the last month, I’m sure including you. Have you stuck with it? If so, congratulations! If not, why not?

February is sadness month. It’s the one of the gloomiest here in Michigan, and the absolutely most difficult time of the year to be intrinsically motivated. So, what happens when that motivation is gone? I’m willing to bet you started skipping the gym. You started cancelling on your friends, your trainer, and ate a bit of comfort food in an effort to feel better. You’ll hit the gym tomorrow right? Maybe, maybe not.

So here we are. Unmotivated. Unhappy. Wanting to change but unsure how. That’s where determination sets in. Now is when that little voice deep down inside gets their moment to shine. You’ll feel better after you hit the weights, after you go for the jog. And you most likely will! But you cannot rely on just “feeling like it”, or when it’s convenient for you. YOU have to decide to make YOUR fitness a priority.

How determined are you to reach your goal? What possible stumbling blocks are standing in your way? Fitness will never be convenient. Full stop. It will always be something that needs to be scheduled, put on the calendar, and made a priority. Schedule with a trainer, find a friend to go with, try a private studio, hire a coach. Make it a priority.

Because no matter how inconvenient it is, or unmotivated you feel, investing in your health is always worth it. How determined are you?
